Behind The Lens with +suzi9mm -> 3'rd of July, 2005

<garrit> Welcome to the Behind the lens feature with +suzi9mm :hug:
<garrit> suzi9mm: :hug:

<suzi9mm> garrit: :)

<Ghouldaddy> thanks for sharing your time with us superkev:blowkiss:
<Ghouldaddy> err
<Ghouldaddy> suzi9mm: that is

<superkev> lol

<LazyGunn> hahah

<superkev> suzi9mm: :wave:

* garrit use /promote username if you want to ask a question

<Ghouldaddy> we see enough of you kev ;P

<LazyGunn> Ghouldaddy: shame on you getting fresh with superkev in public

<suzi9mm> hey kev

<arthaus> Before I start, thank for taking the time to come here to answer our boring questions. I'm a really big fan of yours, and was wondering where you get your inspiration from?

<suzi9mm> thank you. i just 'get it', movies, music, but mostly inside my head :) -done

<LazyGunn> Please have your questions READY

<suzi9mm> lol

<Ghouldaddy> or LazyGunnwill molest you

<LazyGunn> :eyes:

<superkev> :D

<loganart> Hey Jeni :) i obviously could not lost this oportunity to ask youWhere do this ideas come from????? Experiencies you've lived or just crazy ideas in your mind???what about this?

<suzi9mm> my ideas come from all over but that particular one... i have actually linked to a photo that inspired it, in the description, -done
<suzi9mm> the original is a real life photo, of an arm, u can go and see for yourself.

<suzi9mm> sorry about messing the done thing :P

<flumpie> Hi Jen, thanks for joining us :hug: Your shots are very inspiring to many on dA and seem to have helped along a fair amount of the artists on dA to find certain styles, some of which are fairly bloody and/or contain kittens? how do you feel about that? what new styles do you see yourself exploring in the near future?

<Ghouldaddy> :ohmygod:

<suzi9mm> flumpie: thanks, is a pleasure,
<suzi9mm> i dunno about new styles, i plan on sticking to my current one. i also know nothing of bloody kitties. i haven't seen any and i hope i won't. kitties should stay free from blood and gore. it's an honor to be an inspiration though, seriously. -done

<warfish> First of all, hello +suzi9mm, and thanks for this great chance to find out a bit more about the beloved photographer. :heart: And here are the silly simple questions: if you had a chance to make the photo illustrations for a book, what book would it be? (if there's many, please list some of them) And if there're some certain photos that were inspired by certain books would you please name them? Since your art is a bit shocking, I'd really like to see the answers. :plotting:

<LazyGunn> oh nice question :)

<suzi9mm> which book... maybe a photo book, of expressive photography? or s tephen king book. i don't think i've been inspired by books since i haven't been reading much,

<garrit>

<suzi9mm> but i used to read a lot of stephen king when i was younger and i guess some of those 'scenes' he described still lure in my mind. -done

<digimonsterz> Hey Jen, I have seen many famous pieces that have really creeped me out. I have no found out that most of them belong to you, and without a doubt you have almost completely mastered composition. First of all is there anything you still think you need to work on? Also, what has caused you to be so controversial, and what drives you to continue this controversiality?

<suzi9mm> oh i need to work on a LOT of things :lol: i need to work specifically on lighting, impulsive shooting and fashion and backgrounds/environments, they are my wekaest points for sure. i never decided to be controversial, i've always been like 'this' so it's easy to stay this way -done

<crickieheatherphotos> Why all the blood? How/why did you decide to go that route?

<suzi9mm> again, i didn't really decide, i've always been a fan of blood. death and the dark stuff always interested me, and when i was younger i drew pictures with blood in them. blood is a strong element, holds a lot of symbloism, relates to life and death, doesn't leave anyone cold, as we've noticed it draws attention. -done

<Deviant-Dave> When you first started photography what was one challenge you faced and how did u overcome it?

<garrit>

<suzi9mm> as simple as it sounds, the technical side of it was a huge challenge. like, i need to get a camera and learn how to use it. the aperture, lenses, all that... it took me a few years and sure there's still things to learn. it was painful at times(but what isn't?) , when i was trying to take cool shots and they were totally underexposed...(i was using film back then). -done

<mnoo> Heips =P Just a short and sweet one. If you could have your picture on the cover of ANY magazine, which magazine would you prefer and why (stylewise or messagewise etc)?

<suzi9mm> good question :P okay... adbusters would be great messagewise, but if there's a COOl version of Vogue somewhere that would be it. uh, i'm sure there's a mag somewhere but i can't think of it now. okay, the french magazine Photo :P -done

<garrit>

<saligia> hello Jenni :wave: i'm interested, how was your begining like, here, on dA? i mean f.e I was pretty sure that dA is such a big community that it is almost imposible to be put in spot-light :evileye: What was your opinion about that those times? have you been... some kind of lost...shy here? or maybe only aspirations and ambitions? :confused:

<suzi9mm> hmm, when i began here i was lost for sure. like, i didn't even realize how big the community is because it was so big. i barely new who were admins etc. the 'queen' of dA at the time was lostgirl that i remember. i remember getting my first 100th pageview :P and the first 1000! that was amazing. not sure if that answers your question... i wasn't very active in general, i commented a lot, but i wasn't active with the rest of the community. -done

<satansspawn>Hi Jen, I was Just wondering, What are your family's thoughts on your Photography, like, the subject, what is contained in the image itsself, if you dont mind me asking - I of course mean your gorier Photos

<suzi9mm> my mom has only seen a few of my prints because she doesn't 'know' internet, she doesn't get my stuff at all but she's not negative about it i think, just would rather not see it. my dad is very religious and of course disappointed of how i use my skills, for the wrong cause etc. so we don't talk about my photos really,
<suzi9mm> but i sometimes remind him of them because he needs to accept, -done

<brainpixels> Hi Jenni! Hope you'll have a nice chat this evening ;) .. so here is my question: What about your equipment - what do you normally use? Which cam (I know it's a 20D, ok :) ), lenses and so on - just your equipment and things you normally need on a trip or shooting. (my standard question during the last features haha) All the best, greets Michael! [maybe we'll see us soon again at our gallery-pages ;)]

<suzi9mm> i use 20D as u knew, and a 105mm macro for close ups and portraits. 24-85mm canon usm for general photos, and 12-24 digma ex very rarely for wide angles. then i have 3 studio flashes and a softbox.... i shoot inside almost 100% so i use them. i'm getting a small flash for my cam though, tomorrow actually...it's sigma's but i don't remember the model -done

<thegnat> hey suzi9mm, i know you lived in Canada with superkev for a while. Did us Canadians have any effect on your work? Or the weather for that matter? :giggle:

<garrit>

<suzi9mm> i have to say i don't think so... i did shoot a lot in canada though, so i would say that me having a good time and a lot of good models improved my photography, i think it was a very good 6months photography wise. i don't think it affected my style at all tho. if superkev is there he could throw in his opinion -done

<frostbittenheart> :faints: I absolutely adore your work. Sorry for the delay on my question earlier; I froze up :blushes: Do you have any words of advice that might help a beginner artist like me and what artists do you look up to for inspiration and advice.

<suzi9mm> i hate the first question :lol: but that's okay. there is no one advice i guess. u just have to freakin shoot. and shoot some more. look at other ppl's stuff for ideas and to imitate their style (to learn). be critical of your own work, very critical and demanding. as for inspiration, i dunno, but i've found 2 photographers i sincelerely admire, Erwin Olaf and Bettina Rheims :) -done

<lafa> Where did you get your nick from? since your name is not suzi and as far as i know not a world champion in 9mm pistol shooting;) and even your first shots are not about guns

<garrit>

<suzi9mm> it was a name i picked from a movie magazine in 1997 or so. they listed some names for james bond girls that were never used, so i saw suzi ninemillimetre and loved it. i'm a huge james bond fan so it makes sense that way too. always wanted to be a bond girl :P -done

<;pinkcookie> hey suzi9mm, when you were younger/a kid, did you ever want to be anything specific, and did you ever see yourself being so into photography? And to this day, is there a career or job you long/aim to have?

<suzi9mm> hey sophie. when i was 4, i apparently wanted to be a mud wrestler. then i apparently said i want to be a hairdresser. when i was 10-13 i wanted to be a psychologist or a writer. i never thought of photography, didn't occur to me at all. since then i've been thinking of forensics and stuff like that but i don't think i'll go back to school anymore... i don't have any specific career dreams... i only want to take photos now and regret not getting a career later.
<suzi9mm> -done, lol

<mclaranium> Hola Jen, best wishes from México. | There are pictures of afganian children, mexican-chiapanecan children, african families with a hard situation too, families in kosovo and more examples " named reality , "pictures of the real world". Do you consider pictures from Benetton, McDonalds or Mattel are allowed to be admired as all others?, are these part of the reality too? ''gracias

<LazyGunn> crikey

<suzi9mm> hola :hug: hmm, not sure what u mean. i don't think comemrcial stuff can be compared to journalism, or has mcdonalds taken photos of poor families and stuff? commercial stuff, like pictures by Mattel, are a part of reality, but a created reality. reality in the sense that the imahges are a part of this world. the afghans etc. that u mentioned are a part of reality mrely by existing. -done

<wa11a6y> Thanks for your time... Do you tend to use existing light or studio lighting more? Or is that dependent on the location and/or style of the shoot? :shamrock:

<garrit>

<suzi9mm> by looking at my photos i think it becomes apparent that i use flashes... about 98% of the time. i'm kind of stuck on them actually.... i avoid shooting outside my studio (livingroom) because i like the flashes so much. -done
<suzi9mm> and now garrit finds a photo where i use natural light,
<suzi9mm> thanks a bunch :lol:

<garrit> hehe, ok :)

<garrit> :nana:

<suzi9mm> fuck

<garrit> ok, with flash :)

<suzi9mm> i mean *beeb*

<Xekoti> You said earlier that you read Stephen King novels when you were younger - do you have any favorites? One that just sticks out in your mind?

<garrit> :heart:

<suzi9mm> yea, the shining scared the living shit out of me when i was like 11... still would. carrie was cool, and what else was there ... can't remember the titles. there were some short stories i liked.... *bad memory with names* :( -done
<suzi9mm> garrit u just love her aye? so do i ;)

<bzed> suzi9mm: we all love her :)

<Ghouldaddy> Hi Jenni,firstly, on behalf of all of us here at #photographers, thanks for giving your time today to be our guest, it is very appreciated. Now my question : How do you make your blood? =P Kidding!!! You've talked about your love of traveling, aside from home obviously, what has been your fav. destination abroad and where would you like to try and visit next? Also, next Bond after Brosnan is done?

<garrit> suzi9mm: she's wonderful :)

<suzi9mm> the blood thing was not funny... ok it was. well, mexico city was awesome but the fact that we had such great guides there (temoc, mclaranium, redpixl) affects it a lot. canada i don't count as travelling cos i lived there, but
<suzi9mm> new york was awesome, i WILL go back there. and my next places to visit (in no order) are tokyo, siberia and rio de janeiro as well as sao paulo. and i'm going to paris and switzerland in september. , and brosnan/bond,
<suzi9mm> uh... that's a tough one :( not sure his shows can be filled, i mean we don't want another lazenby do we? if i have to pick maybe ewan mcgregor will grow up to be a man enough to do that... :shrugs: it's really hard. i wish brosnan to continue one or two more -done

<flumpie> hei again jen :D a slight followup to mclaranium question. I think she referred to commercial enterprises using faux-reality with photojournalistics style in their advertising in the form of anything-necessary-to-sell, which basically is just an invitation to the bigger question. how do you balance the use of tools available to shock the audience with various effects (blood, guns, nudity, etc) as opposed to the possibility of desensitizing the audience to 'real' tragedies of the world where blood, guns and loss are inescapable parts of their daily lives? have you got plans to ever use photography and your camera-skills as a tool to tell people about something non-fictional?

* LazyGunn counts the questions

<Ghouldaddy> lol

<suzi9mm> okay first... i have no plans on doing journalism. if teh opportunity raises, like, if i end up travelling to a warzone, i will utilize my camera because it's natural to me, but i won't seek those opportunities. as for the mcdonald's etc. advertizing, they are companies and do whatever they need to do to sell. the world is ran by money and companies, it's too late to complain now,
<suzi9mm> but without seeing teh ads in case maybe i shouldn't say more. as for me or my type of work desenzitinzing (word?) ppl from real world tragedies, it's already happened. doesn't mean it has to be continued but i don't honestly believe that i for example desensitize ppl from feeling for the real tragedies. i would liek to believe that those of us who can tell a difference, will be able to do so. i think my work clearly coundts as entertainment often. but is that kind of entertainment ok? the audience, which is you, clearly likes it, wants more even, so what can i say? uh, that's a tough one i could go on for hours.... catch me later ona note if u will -done

<garrit> suzi9mm: it's time for a break -> 5 minutes ok? :)

<suzi9mm> ok

<garrit> suzi9mm: ready? :)

<suzi9mm> i want to spam; [link] i took this today!
<suzi9mm> :heart:
<suzi9mm> and yes, ready!

<saligia> if only you can share this secret...what is your most fresh idea, what kind of photo do you wanna show hungry for every pixel from you watchers? :giggle:

<LazyGunn> oi i can see nips

<suzi9mm> to be honest i don't remember my most freshest idea.... the one i've been thinking about teh past few days is a dead series photo, to replace an older, shittier one. it should have a schoolgirl, cause of death unknown. a forensics examiner i know said it sounded good :P but i'm superstitious so i don't share details because i think it'll go wrong if i do -done
<suzi9mm> LazyGunn: no u can't!

<Raithone> If DeviantART finished today, what (or who) will you miss with more intensity? - sorry my bad english, I hope you understand my question :] Thank you

<LazyGunn> suzi9mm: it's only a man-nip but still counts, it just doesnt have such a high nippage rating

<Ghouldaddy> :disbelief:

<suzi9mm> who would i miss most? uh huh... i guess someone that i don't have a contact to in real life... hmm. jark or spyed maybe, not because i would know them personally or such, but because they made the site. all of my friends i pretty much talk to in messenger as well. -done
<suzi9mm> LazyGunn: oh i didn't count it at all... :lol:

<LazyGunn> suzi9mm: psh you beginner in the world of nip-counting
<LazyGunn> Please have your queations ready

<HurricaneAli> Hello... I am only 14 and i am soon going to be going on a expedition costing £3000 to thailand, i love photography and i think i may be able to sell some of my photo's (not for very much) and i was wondering how i could do this at my age. I am aware some people may have done it, but i don't know if i am good enough yet. also did you need any qualifications to get to where you are today?? Thankyou for your time and sorry if you have already been asked similar i got here late.

<suzi9mm> well, i don't have any qualitifications to be 'where' i am today. so that's good news. selling at age 14, depends where u want to sell and to whom i guess. in dA i think it's possible. elsewhere u may need your parents to help you out as your signature i think is it not valid legally... dunno about seeling stuff really. sorry. good luck with shooting tho. -done

<;pinkcookie> hey again jen! ok so question two, Do you plan of leaving deviantART anytime soon?

<suzi9mm> sophie, u r talkative today. teh answer: NO FUCKIN WAY :lol: like, why would i? :o :) -done
<suzi9mm> *loves dA*

<LazyGunn> dA loves you too :)

<ad-Comunity> Hey there! I must say, is, if not THE, one of the best photographies i've ever ever seen. It's so meaningful, so brilliant and so inspiring, i can't even tell you. If I was to buy one print in dA, I'd chose this one first of all. :D So, I'd like to know your thoughts about it. What is it about, for you - the meaning of it? What inspired you? What really have you tried to transmit with this? Why is it your feature deviation? Anyway, whatever you have to say about it. Thanks in advance.

<LazyGunn> Thanks for your question :)

<suzi9mm> lovely question... if i'm asked what's my fav photo of my own, i pick that one. it's not best quality wise or so, but it has a lot of meaning to me. i call it a portrait of a relationship. me and my bf used to go to his old school (music academy) at night, and he'd play for me and i'd sit on his lap. it was romantic and all that jazz, u can imagine, perhaps. i wanted to capture the moment so i did. my cam had a good timer. i did take off the clothes because i felt it would make the photo more interesting (uh...). but i am still in love with him and the photo i just spammed a few minutes ago is taken today. so i dunno, i just like it because it reminds me of something so personal and good to me. -done

<ErzebethBathory> Sorry Jenni but the browser froze here...I wanted to know what is for you the hardest thing to accomplish in a photo and what is your greatest handicap as a photographer...and as you know... I love your work... :hug:

<suzi9mm> i know :) the hardest thing...the whole, but thats a bad answer.... okay so the feeling. because the emotion in a photo is usually the most important thing, it really has to come through. my greatest handicap i think is lighting. or background? hmm, can't pick. -done

<tribalkitty> I've noticed that you do photos for other people.... I've been wanting to take photos for people for years. How did you start out? What equipment did you use and all? How much do you normally charge for commission?

<suzi9mm> by photos to other ppl do u mean commission work? i guess. i've only started doing taht 'lately' so i use the equipment that i still use, 20D and studio flashes, either in my livingroom'studio' or a real studio if the customer pays for it. i charge depending on teh job, who's paying (ad agency or band or private person), the time it takes and if i have personal interest in the photos -done

<Cryosis> Greets, I'm relatively new to photography, started about a week or two ago, I think I'm on the right path of learning the technical stance first (iso, shutter speed, f-number). I was wondering if you knew any resources that would help me out on the aspects of photography.

<suzi9mm> week or two ago! wow. maybe get a book from the library? but if you're in the united states, i think that's useless... (been to a library there). there are lotsa great online sources today. try google? :) photography -section in dA has news daily and many of them link to good resources. u might also use common sense and imagination. good luck :) -done

<garrit> additional info: *photo-class -> Cryosis

<cephiane> hello maybe someone ask you this but i wasn't there ... sorry too ... "" do you keep mental illness for theme on your picture ??? how do you introduce yourself into it if you use for find new idea ??? "" thanks of a bad eyes child

<suzi9mm> do i keep mental illness as a theme for my picture? no, *thinks* i don't think so. some of the tjemes in my photos may be a little out there, but i don't think they're related to mentall illness very often. i also don't use mentall illness to find new ides...if i understoof your question correctly. simply put: at the moment i can't recall that my wowrk is related to mentall illness at all -done

<austinslide> hiya Jenni.. As Ive mentioned to you before.. I'm a big fan of the death series. What was your influence for these? There are a few of them that make me feel very uncomfortable to look at them.. Do any of them make you feel uncomfortable?

<garrit>

<suzi9mm> i actually don't know where i got the inspiration from. i've always been into macabre ideas like that, so i just wanted to take a photo of someone faking to be dead...and then i took another one.... i for some reason want to create these images and i don't have a good excuse :( i created the photos and i'm pretty numb to rotten.com material as well so i don't feel bad looking at them, at all. but like, one of them is based on a real life scene (the pregnant stabbed woman), and looking at atht , the original shot i mean, still makes me sad a bit. -done

<emreinstein> Hey jen, best wishes from Turkey. I hope you wouldn't get me wrong because you're the cause of why i'm here. :hug: Here is the most boring question of the night, imo; Have you ever thinked that you might have a psychotic personality, if you thinked what you did for it? I'm a medicine student and worried that have you ever thinked to be a Doctor? (sorry for my bad english :( )

<bzed>

<LazyGunn> wow thats a lot of bl;ood

<suzi9mm> hey turkey. lol at the question. it's not the most boring one tho. i haven't considered to be psychotic or such. but then again, do psychotic ppl ever feel they are psychotic? i have felt depressed at times, but never really mentally ill. i think i'm extremely healthy that way. and i haven't considered being a doctor, but i did want to be a psychologist when i was younger. and i still occasionally want to be a pathologist even if it's boring most of the time. -done

<;Petra-> hey Jenni. i saw your piece "sprained minds" before i even knew about dA. it fascinated me so much and i really wanted to know who the Jenni Tapanila on the picture was, and what other stuff she did. thanks to google i found your dA gallery and i followed up your work, and i even drew your "What do you care". How does being such an inspiration for various artists following different techniques make you feel about what you do? And Do you see yourself doing anything else after receiving this success in photography?

<LazyGunn> thanks Petra- :)

<garrit>

<suzi9mm> as cheesy as it sounds, it's tru that it's an extreme honor and very flattering to be an inspiration to someone, and have them search for me on google and all that. makes my photos seem worthwhile. i don't see myself changing styles or anything, i hope to continue on the path i am now. the world is not enough ;) (bond movie) -done

<danirat> Sorry I didn't have my question ready earlier, I got caught off guard. I have to ask you about the Manson Family photo.. the Tate recreation - Would you ever do anything like that again? Re-create a famous scene? If so, what? I'm just curious because that recreation really invoked a lot of emotion in me.

<suzi9mm> i might, but i don't have a certain one in mind. well, now that u got me thinking, maybe jim morrison in the tub? it's a guy tho and the photo would def. be bw.... so not really dead series material. but still. the Tate murder was especially crual and u don't see that stuff everyday so i can'tthink of anything similar. -done

<Doc-Mort> hey there... just wondered if there was any ONE particular artist, muse, or friend that helped you develop and get to where you are now as an artist? Someone who without, you wouldn't be talking to all of us now maybe? Doesn't have to be anyone we all know, it's just nice to get a look at the roots of obvious talent! Hi from England btw xx

<garrit> natural light :D
<garrit> Waiting list: TheGreenFairy, bupo, Terminater, attila, RetiredKiller, emxinh, ofallpieces, cephiane, mrsselfdestruct

<suzi9mm> hi england :) i don't think anyone's helped me with my style, i'd say i'm fairly independent photography wise, but i don't think i'd be here without my bf's support. (sininen in dA). it's cheesy but true. also we bought 10D and 20D, together, split. i wouldn't have had the money to buy 10D when i did if it wasn't for him, so. -done
<suzi9mm> and fuck off garrit with teh natural lights :lol:

<garrit> suzi9mm: hehe

<suzi9mm> u're embarrassing me :P

<LazyGunn> hahah

<garrit> :nana:

<LazyGunn> i know hes doing it on purpose

<TheGreenFairy> What got you started in the fetish/bloody genre? I know its not the only type you do but it seems to be a major part of your gallery. What does doing these pieces mean to you? *psychologist mode* was there a particular event in your past that got you started? (i know while typing this austinslide asked a similar question)

<bzed> :heart:

<suzi9mm> i don't thnk there was a particular moment that got me started. as long as i can remember i was interested in death, suicide and blood and all that. as soon as i handled my camera well enough to try to put some of the images in my head on film, i did (in 2003 i guess). they don't mean anything special to me, anything different from the other photos that is. some are just entertainment, some are sad (dead series), mostly i try to make visually pleasing images even if the topic is harsh, i like teh controversy there. -done
<suzi9mm> olya and hesi :heart: indeed
<suzi9mm> TheGreenFairy: also i think the dead series has helped in my fear of violence, so there is some psychology behind it

<Terminater> Hello suzi9mm this may have been asked but im not sure so I am going to ask it anyways. All your pieces are really fantastic. Photography is a big medium of mine. What is your source of insperation for your photos, where do you get ur ideas from. Most of your shots are done in a studio of some sort am i correct? How long and how many shots do you think you go threw to find that one photo that you love? Is there any perticular type of equiptment you like to use in your shots....for example like a certain lense or filters and what not. Now i notice that alot of your shots are of some intese theme have you ever wanted to pull away from that theme and go for something that is really different from those shots? Was photography the first art form you started or was there something else that lead you to this?

<garrit> one question, not 4 please :)

<suzi9mm> uh huh, that's a lot. my inspiration comes from inside my head mostly, really. sometimes a photo by someone else inspired me, sometimes a moment in a monie, sometime sa chorus in a song, like 'best of you' by foofighters,
<suzi9mm> and yes i work in my livingroom and i call it s studio altho that's pathetic... i take about 10 to 100 shots per idea to find the one that i polish and cherish and post. ,
<suzi9mm> i use besides the 20D cam, mostly 24-85mm lense and my fav lense iis sigma 105mm ex macro, i use it for close ups. in photoshop my fav filter is bleach bypass. there is is, my secret out in the open. i haven't wanted to pull away from teh dark themes and sometimes i want to try something different and then i just do, with success or not... it's hard to change themes that's a fact . and finally, before photography yes i drew all my life until i quit at age 16. self criticism caught me big time. i drew similar themes as i know photograph. -done

<RetiredKiller> when I see other webpages, especially blogs, I see those kind of buttons with little text on them... and one of the more popular one's is actually "Sprained Minds" with some text along... what do you feel when you see that stuff? anger, because someone stole your work? proud, that people use it? and how do you respond?

<suzi9mm> i am tired of feeling anger anymore, besides who wants to be angry all day? waste of energy... it is flatterinfg that it is liked, but i wish ppl asked for permission, if they do, i usually give if they are willing to credit me. i think crediting would only be fair. i don't have the tiem to respond or act on all rippers, i only act on teh worst cases like selling my stuff or such. and my actions depends on case. webmaster, service provider, host.... -done

<emxinh> Greetings, Jenni. did you attend any art school?

<suzi9mm> greetings. no i did not :) i have a cosmetologist degree and *almost* BBA degree -done

<garrit> suzi9mm: it's time for a break :)
<garrit> suzi9mm: 5 minutes ok?

<suzi9mm> oki

<garrit> suzi9mm: ready? :)

<suzi9mm> yes sir

<LazyGunn> i wish people would call ME sir :(

<cephiane> it's me :D ... you welcome to evian city at geneva lake border ... "" do you have do special thing with your work like hide secret thing ( sign... logo or something like that ...) into your work or do special thing like do a photo and after burn it without keep anything ??? "" thanks from bad eyes child ....

<suzi9mm> hmm, no i don't think i have anything special like that, i use my fav filter on most of my photos tho, even if just a bit. i have my signature on all of them, but they're not identical. i wish i had a fancy secret thing :( -done

<LazyGunn> all girls have afancy secret thing :eyes:

<mrsselfdestruct> Question: This is one of my most favorite shots from you | [link] | I remember when this was posted and sitting at school in front of the monitor when about 15 people crowded around me with their jaws dropped staring at this picture, just wondering how the hell you did it and how long that could have taken. So, I guess my question is, how long did this shot take to set up? - Amanda

<bzed>

<suzi9mm> i don't remember exactly...maybe it took around 1 to 1.5 hours... i took 8 different shots to get the foot and hand and all in different places and if u check the description u see i had help in putting it together, i couldn't do things like that in PS back then. all in all it wasn't nearly one of my hardest shots even if it looks complicated. -done

<Smellsfunny> Ok. This might sound a bit stupid question, and perhaps you have answered to this like years ago.. But in short.. Why women? A bit longer(ly) I'm not entirely sure, but well, quickly rampaging your gallery at least half are women, more like 70% of the works are photos of women. Ahh.. To the point: Are the persons in the photos intentionally women? For example, could have the "dead series" been done with men instead? Again I'm not sure but they all seem to be women in that series..

<suzi9mm> well, all the ideas get are simply 'of' women or for women. i haven't figured out a reason yet, maybe it's because i am a woman? and i also feel strongly about being a woman, in both good and bad. hey i know, i only had barbie's as a child, maybe that's it, no Ken! and dead series is specifically of women, women as vistoms of violent murders as simply more personal subject to me because i am afraid of violence. so yes it's women on purpose but for no specific reason. women are more interesting. but i love men. -done

<Nik0> Hola :) Let's see... if you, for any reason stop (or never started), to do photography what kind of art you think you'll be doing? Or if not art-related, what kind of work/job you'll like to do/have?

<suzi9mm> maybe i'd have gone back to drawing if i hadn't grabbed the camera. or maybe painting altho i've usually hated it... i have a 3-days per week day-job. i work in the customer service of a local internet/cable-tv operator, which is fine whils i get to concentrate on other things on my free time. -done

<austinslide> I know youve done a few self portraits, but as far as I know (I may be wrong) they have mostly been rather "dark" in style.. On the other hand Marianne has done some BEAUTIFUL portraits of you... Have you modelled for many other photographers and when you pose for Marianne, do you let her "call the shots" so to speak?

<garrit>
* garrit We will close the Waiting Level sonn
<garrit> soon :)

<suzi9mm> i wouldn't call my photos of myself self-portraits, i just pose for my photos like any model would, to present an idea, it's just a role. mnoo's style is more colorful so naturally her photos of me are in her style, she def. calls all teh shots, i don't say a word when i'm modelling for someone, because i don't want mine to start advising me neither ;) and i have also posed for deviants sininen, tania and hmm, i think there's someone else... oh well. i have, anyway. -done

<lommo> Hello Jenni :). What is your favourite horrorfilm? (+why?)

<suzi9mm> well hello... my fav horror, err. the shining i guess. it's really scary, that's why. good old fashioned fear, using some great ideas, like children going crazy etc. blood :P -done

<dajno> suzi9mm: who is you?

<suzi9mm> whhhat? suzi9mm is a self centered finnish lady who is weak in front of bunnies and kitties. -done

<LazyGunn> :)

<;pinkcookie> Its me again! :lol: . I know that in a few weeks a little bit of canada will be coming over to finland but i was wondering, Do you see yourself ever returning to canada, for just a visit or another long stay? And along with that, do you plan of moving/living in any other country, Or do you plan to be born raised lived and die in finnland? :)

<suzi9mm> sophie not you again!! :o i might return to canada but there are so many other places i need to see first :( i have no plans for a long tiem stay either unless i get a reason to, like a job or such. i think i would liek to live in new york for some time, hopefully in the next few years. but finns always come back. so, i'll probably live most of my life here and die here, which is fine :) -done

<garrit>

<suzi9mm> btw i was born in Vienna

<cephiane> again and again .... thanks for your patience so you have special touch i think :D ... "" do you do collection of something or have favorite symbol in your life ??? "" thanks from bad eyes child ... i hope to meet you ... all my greating ....

<suzi9mm> i collect kitty magnets. no fav symbols i think. and thanks. -done

<eXsanguinousCorpse> So, this may have been asked before, but you said you were ineterested in forensics. Do you take note to accuracy when using your fakeblood? (as in, arteries spurt with force, and whatnot.--not to mention the way blood spatter tells a story.)

<suzi9mm> well, now i do more than before. i have tried my best. i think a lot of ppl like advising me tho without really knowing shit about the topic... but yes i try. now i also have a forensics examiner as a friend to advise me if needed :D -done

<fullSense> why you choose this nickname? rss... Do you often use high shot tecnique when taking pics? how do you find the models.? ...and what about going to Brazil? :D (congrats, Jenni! You do a great work! :jedi: )

<suzi9mm> i actually already answered before, can u scrool up? what do u mean by high shot technique? i guess i don't use it since i don't know what it is. yes, i will go to brazil the next chance i get, hopefully next year. and thanks. -done
<suzi9mm> garrit: are we really quitting already?

<austinslide> What studio flashes do you use Jenni? Oh and if you do ever decide to do the Jim Morrison recreation thing.. I'll model for you.. if you dont mind that I dont have much hair or a beard.. hmm ok so that wont work :D

<garrit> suzi9mm: we can reopen the waiting level if you want

<suzi9mm> i use 2 multiblitz flashes with umbrellas and an alienbees flash a softbox. and yes, that won't work :( -done

<suzi9mm> garrit, yes please, if there are question si will answer

<Ghouldaddy> suzi9mm: CSI ..Vegas or Miami (New York doesn't rate pfft)

<suzi9mm> VEGAS ! -done

<Satyricon-> Hello suzi, will you ever sotp doing death related pictures, if yes what are yur plans?

<suzi9mm> no specific plans, if i feel like stopping, i will. but currently i'm really feeling like doing them :D met a forensics guy and that inspired me some more. if i quit doing them we'll see then -done

<Jenya-Lechtman> I think your work is very different not like other photographers ive seen and thats a good thing :) there is a lot of refreshing stuff in your galleryI have not been here from the begining so i dont know if that had been already asked but who is your favorite photographer in DA?

<garrit>
<garrit> kitttyyyy :heart:

<Ghouldaddy> I :heart: that one

<LazyGunn> is that a cat being attacked by darth vader? *peers*
<LazyGunn> ohh :fear: i shoulda clicked

<suzi9mm> my fav photographer in dA....uh. maybe currently lithiumpicnic. altho darkgoth has been my all time fav and she was my idol when i first came here. -done

<emreinstein> Hello again from Turkey... Are there any horror movie that you were really scared? and last: Do you think to visit Turkey anytime in the nearfuture?

<suzi9mm> i actually just replied this. the shining is really fuckin scary. i will hoepfully visit all countries one day. turkey is not at the top of my list atm -done

<flumpie> hi again Jen :hug: I have two softball questions :D If you were to be stranded on a remote island with no communication with the outside world and you could only bring prints of three photos, which photos would that be? and lastly, me and LazyGunn want a special shot of us together , something like , will you shoot, please? :smooch:

<Ghouldaddy> :fear:

<suzi9mm> i'd bring... the scream of war by howtan howtan, the paris kiss photo by...who was it again? lol. and seriously, just any photo as the third. i'm not a HUGE fan of prints so. and as for the latter, yes sure if you pay me, also u need to come over or pay my trip to where you are :) -done

<LazyGunn> :lmao:

<gabrielxavier> Suzi, first and formost, thank you for the phenominal job you do picking daily deviations. Second: For someone who's just getting into digital photography, and will be experimenting with a wide range of conceptual and non-conceptual arts within photography.. My question is: Whats the biggest piece of advice you have for someone? :bow: Thank you for your time.

<suzi9mm> that's so hard :( how about just keep shooting? be critical, demanding and learn from others and concentrate in yourself and not others. and thank you. -done

<megamanbellotti> suzi9mm: was any photographer on dA an insperation to u sorry bout the spelling

<suzi9mm> well i idolized darkgoth when i came in here and still adore her work but i dunno about exact inspiration. i guess she's inspired me a bit. -done

<garrit> additional info -> [link] <-- godlike

<RetiredKiller> in "The Master and the soft spot", what was your inspiration for this theme? was there a real human behind the mask? (when I first saw it, I thought it was a chess figure... with the black knight and the white kitty...) and, most important: how the hell did you make the cat stay in place?

<suzi9mm> no specific inspiration, altho now it looks like a scene from that austian powers movie! the guy told me what kind of latext clothing etc. he had, and i was like yea.... would be nice but i don't want to photograph just latex, i need something to contrast it, like a white fluffy animal. ans he goes; i have a white cat. and that was it, i packed my shit and took a bus to toronto. we tried a couple different kind of shots, the kitty was NOT happy at all and would not stay in place, so we had breaks and stuff. then once i just kept looking through the lens and hoping and trying to cathc teh kitty's attention and the kitty looked at me! *snap* that was it :P -done

<garrit> :giggle:
<garrit> that's mi4 btw :)

<suzi9mm> oh that's nice!

<Smellsfunny> People have asked about movies and such.. But I haven't at least noticed other people asking questions of other arts than the mentioned and the obvious photography.. Geez, umm.. Yet again back to the point: Do you play any instruments? Violin, Guitar or something more exotic? Or do you even have that much spare time besides working, relationships and photography? (I'm sorry if I that sentence sounds weird. Not my native languge.)

<Ghouldaddy> :flirty: mi4

<garrit> :hump: mi4
